Prep Circular - 6 June 2025

Dear families, at the Prep school, we believe in fostering independence, self-motivation, and ownership of learning – qualities that will serve our pupils well throughout their lives. With this in mind, I would like to share some opportunities that can enrich their learning experiences beyond the classroom walls. Let me be clear from the outset, this is not homework. We continue to uphold our no-homework policy because we understand that our children already have full days at school, and commuting extends their day even further. Home time should be time to play, relax, and, most importantly, enjoy quality family time. However, we do see great value in creating opportunities for children to engage with learning at home in a relaxed, pressure-free environment. This is an invitation, not an obligation.

Dear parents, as winter starts to show its hand, it is difficult to comprehend that we are already in June, halfway through the year! With the crisp mornings and sunny days, this time of year is the perfect time for outdoor pursuits. June, in our area, is such an invigorating time of year – a time to savour the blue skies, enjoy the elegance of the Southern Right whale's arrival along our coast, and the inviting walks in nature.

Dear families, I would like to begin this editorial by extending my warmest congratulations to Mr Reed on his appointment as Head of the Preparatory School, effective from January 2026. Having worked closely with him over the years and observed his development in a variety of roles within the Prep, I can say with confidence that he is both exceptionally well-qualified and ideally suited for this position. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the school will continue to thrive and reach even greater heights. Dear parents, a very warm welcome to the next edition of the bi-weekly communication. As always, I am grateful for all the support and partnership of our parent community. The past two weeks have been full and have demanded much time and effort from a significant portion of the student body. From the classroom to the sports field, and everywhere in between, we are proud of the energy, commitment and spirit our students continue to show. Since my last communication I have had the opportunity of travelling to the UK to catch up with alumni in that part of the world.
