Mom, Dad, I’m bored!

As parents, this is a phrase we have all heard — sometimes daily — and yet, in a world filled with distractions, boredom might be a gift. It creates space for something far more valuable than entertainment to take root: creativity, curiosity, and imagination. In our fast-paced world, children rarely get the chance to be still, to wonder, invent, and  explore ideas that begin with, “I wonder…” These quiet, unstructured moments are where real thinking and creativity, begins.

That is why we are embracing an inquiry-based learning approach, encouraging pupils to ask questions, investigate ideas, and make sense of the world through exploration. This approach to learning values wonder and sees curiosity not as a distraction, but as a strength. The child who builds a lopsided tower or spots a dragon in the clouds is not wasting time — they are developing essential skills such as problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking. These are not just childhood games; they are essential life skills. Games that you may have played as a child, like I spy with my little eye, cloud watching, or counting how many cars you can see in a particular colour during long trips in the car required no screen, no app — only imagination. 

Let us reignite that inquisitiveness and return to that world where things were so much simpler. The next time your child says, “I’m bored,” resist the urge to fill the silence and...
