Woodridge

Round Square

In 2022, Woodridge became the only school in Nelson Mandela Bay to join the Round Square Network, thereby forming part of a diverse network of 230 like-minded institutions across the world. A lengthy and in-depth strategic planning process culminated in Woodridge joining this world-class programme, which is operational on no less than six continents and strives to foster connection and collaboration amongst member schools.

The Round Square educational approach encompasses character education and experiential learning, and the application of the Round Square Discovery Framework, which incorporates six themes, namely Internationalism, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership and Service.

These themes are underpinned by twelve discoveries that students typically explore during their learning journey. They are inquisitiveness, tenacity, courage, compassion, inventiveness, problem-solving, self-awareness, sense of responsibility, appreciation of diversity, commitment to sustainability, communication and teamwork.

Being part of this initiative greatly assists the school in achieving some of the most important objectives of our strategic plan, including the delivery of a relevant curriculum aimed at producing innovative problem solvers and the ability to grow individuals with a well-developed strength of character. There are also countless benefits for staff with respect to networking, staff development and training opportunities, as well as benchmarking exercises on an international front. This is again aimed at achieving the goal of enabling staff to achieve excellence and fulfilment in their fields of expertise.

The progressive nature of this programme allows Woodridge to enhance the focus on character education and experiential learning and to further leverage off the school’s unique location and natural surroundings.
