Woodridge

The diversity Journey

We recognise that our school community reflects the vibrant, complex, and diverse nature of our nation. As part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, we strive to nurture a culture where every individual feels valued, respected, and safe.

The journey is rooted in a collective commitment to equity, mutual respect, and belonging.

Our Transformation and Diversity Committee has been established to deepen our efforts in this space. The team is tasked to drive Transformation, Diversity and Inclusivity programs, and to build on initiatives taken by the Woodridge Trust over the last few years.

The committee consists of the following members:

  • Mr Nicholas Kock (College Deputy Head)
  • Mr Trevor von Berg (Prep Head)
  • Mr Cliff Reed (Prep Deputy Head)
  • Mrs Cheryl McLean (HR Manager)

strategic goals

Since its inception, the committee has actively embarked on initiatives such as the drafting of our Transformation and Diversity Policy to enhance understanding, representation, and open dialogue within our school community through various activities and workshops that will feed into our broader Transformation Plan.

The committee is working to create an environment where all voices are listened to, and everyone has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our transformation journey.

One of the goals in our strategic plan is to establish Woodridge as a safe space where everyone belongs. Our focus on inclusivity is to ensure that each person feels welcome and respected, with equal opportunity to grow, thrive, and contribute to the school.

Our Statement of Intent outlines the guiding principles and values that drive our diversity and transformation efforts. These principles echo the spirit of South Africa's Constitution, honouring those who have striven for justice and unity while recognising the hard work still needed to overcome challenges.

Plan of action

We are dedicated to ensuring the following:

  • Fair and transparent policies and practices;
  • Empowering all members of our community to contribute to and engage with transformation initiatives;
  • Promoting open dialogue where all voices are valued;
  • Providing accessible channels for addressing discrimination and inequality; and
  • Building an environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Join us in our ongoing efforts aimed at creating a more inclusive and diverse school community, where respect, equity, and unity are at the forefront of all we do. Together, we will continue to build a School that truly embodies our commitment to transformation, diversity, and inclusion.
