Woodridge continued to show their strengths as they took on Union High School from Graaff Reinet on the rugby and girls hockey fields at the Woodridge campus on Saturday. These fixtures have been revived and proved to be a good one for both schools.

In a tough girls first team match, in which the final score belied the difference between the two teams, Woodridge were two nil up after the first half. Working hard to apply pressure in the second half, Woodridge started penetrating the Union defence, with Jessica Brown controlling the middle of the field and Iman Bonnasse showing great skill and poise to score two excellent field goals. Woodridge ran out aa convincing 6 – nil winners.

The rest of the Woodridge girls hockey teams showed similar dominance, winning the U14A (3 – nil), U16A (1- nil), U16B ( 1 – nil) and U14B (1 – nil) games. The Union second team won 2 – 1 to conclude an excellent contest of hockey. As expected, the rugby matches against Union were toughly contested. The Woodridge 1st team gave it their all against a well drilled Union first team. Unfortunately we made too many errors and could not adjust defensively to Union’s style of play, despite a five all half time score. Union upped their game in the second half and scored some well-executed tries to run out as deserving winners with a score of 29 - 10.

The 2nd team held on to what was a very closely fought match, which could have gone either way, but they were resolute in their defence up until the last minute. The final score was 7 - 5 for Union. The U16 game was definitely the match of the day with a well-organised Woodridge team taking their opportunities and converting them into a thrilling 19 – 14 win.  The U14s fought hard but went down to Union with a final score of 24 – 19.

On the equestrian front, Woodridge hosted the Western Mounted Games Qualifier 4 at the Woodridge Equestrian Centre's two specialised arenas.
