Woodridge College proudly hosted its first-ever Girls Cricket Festival, welcoming some of the most prestigious girls’ cricket schools in the country. The festival was a resounding success, showcasing high-quality cricket played in great spirit, with teams demonstrating skill, sportsmanship, and determination throughout.
Day 1: Woodridge 1st XI Girls vs Cambridge
Unfortunately, the opening match against Cambridge was rained out, but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players, who were eager to compete in the following fixtures.
Day 2: Woodridge 1st XI Girls vs Stirling High School
In a thrilling encounter, Woodridge put up a strong fight against Stirling. Stirling posted 101-5 in their 20 overs, with Ashlee Buhr (2-14) and Nina Ferreira (2-18) leading the bowling attack. In response, Woodridge fell agonizingly short, scoring 99-7, despite a valiant 37 from Buhr. The team showed resilience but lost by just 2 runs.
Woodridge 1st XI Girls vs Jeppe
Jeppe proved to be formidable opposition, amassing 237-8 in 30 overs. Anneqah Smith (2-24) and Zara Bonnasse (2-51) worked hard with the ball. Woodridge put up a fighting effort, with Ashlee Buhr impressing with a well-played 53, but they were bowled out for 115 in 28.2 overs, losing by 122 runs.
Day 3: Woodridge 1st XI Girls vs Noordheuwel
The final match saw Noordheuwel post 151-4 in 20 overs, with Ava Horner picking up 2-41. Woodridge battled hard in the chase, with Quinn Foreman (19) and Zara Bonnasse (18* not out) leading the scoring, but they finished on 99-8, falling short by 52 runs.
Despite the results, the festival was a fantastic celebration of girls’ cricket. The Woodridge team displayed determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making the school proud. This successful event has set the foundation for future festivals, as Woodridge continues to grow and develop girls’ cricket at the highest level.
