The Kingswood College first rugby team returned to winning ways when they defeated Woodridge 62-0 in their schools clash in Makhanda on Saturday. Kingswood dominated from the outset and scored first through a driving maul from a lineout. They then scored a further three tries before Woodridge had a passage of play where they kept the ball through several phases which resulted in a penalty and an opportunity for them to get some points on the board. However, the kick was unsuccessful and Kingswood went into halftime 26-0 up.

The pattern of the match continued in the second half as Kingswood continued to dominate, scoring 36 unanswered points for an emphatic victory. Woodridge showed glimpses of what they were capable of on a few occasions, creating some line breaks, but the resolute Kingswood defence scrambled to ensure their tryline was not crossed. Kingswood will host Nico Malan on July 23 for the final rugby fixture of the season. The Woodridge second team produced a valiant effort before going down 17-6. The visitors led 6-5 at halftime but Kingswood scored 12 unanswered points in the second half to win the game. Jack McClure kicked two penalties for Woodridge. The Woodridge U14 side showed promise from the outset when they scored from a lineout move close to the Kingswood tryline. The game, though, was tight throughout and Kingswood’s defence proved difficult to break. Strong carries by the Woodridge forwards often had Kingswood on the back foot and the game ended with a phenomenal try by No 8 Cullum Pledger after he picked the ball up from a scrum, broke the line and gave the Kingswood fullback no chance as he scored under the poles for a 27-5 win to Woodridge.

The U15 match was a classic game of two halves, with Kingswood using their opportunities in the first half to cross the tryline three times to lead 19-0 at the break. The second half was a much tighter affair and Woodridge scrumhalf Olìvier Puttergill produced a fine sniping try after sustained pressure. However, neither side could score any more points for a 19-5 win to Kingswood. The Woodridge U16 team conceded an early try which rattled them. Although they regained some of  their composure and started playing their own game, Kingswood were able to cross for another try. In the second half both teams made unforced errors, but Kingswood capitalised better than Woodridge to win 42-10. The Woodridge first girls hockey team scored a fine 2-0 win against Kingswood. They dominated throughout the game and were rewarded with goals from Ruby Webb and Lana von Hagen. The win was a result of the preparations and training they have put in this season, playing a strong, positive style of hockey from the first whistle. The Woodridge first netball team faced a tough challenge against Kingswood on Friday. They finished the first quarter on 5-5, but Kingswood upped their game and built a 15-goal lead in the second and third quarters. Woodridge fought back in the last quarter, but it was too late to narrow the scoreline and they finally went down 30-13.
