HOCKEY
The annual Alexander Road hockey derby, held on 3 and 4 May, delivered competitive matches for the most part and a number of games came down to the wire. The 2nd team boys were particularly impressive in their first game of the season, beating Alex's 2nd boys 5-0.
Our 1st team boys came up against a determined Alex side and played good hockey, dominating large portions of the match. While Alex made the most of their opportunities to score, our boys just didn't capitalise on their circle entries and short corners and went down 0-2 in a tightly contested affair. Our 1st team boys are commended on their exemplary conduct in a physical and testing contest.
Our girls' teams were mostly victorious in their games against Alex. The U14A girls deserve a special mention for their 7-0 victory and continue to grow in stature as a young team. Our U14B girls also managed an excellent 4-1 win in their first game of the season.
Our 1st team girls dominated territory and possession against a fit and feisty Alex 1st team. Alex struck first but our girls soon equalised with a brilliant reverse-stick tomahawk goal by Becky McNicol. Dane Strydom soon made it 2-1 in our favour, but Alex responded to tie the scores into the final chukka. With less than 4 minutes left on the clock we were awarded a short corner and Becky Botha drove a spectacular drag flick into the Alex goalbox to secure us a 3-2 victory.

RUGBY
On a perfect winter morning in the Eastern Cape, we hosted Alexander Road High School for the annual derby. From the outset, it was clear this match would be a clash between Woodridge's backline and Alexander Roads forwards. The early stages saw Alexander Road 1st XV asserting
dominance in the scrums and mauls, utilizing their robust ball carriers to full effect, but Woodridge's defence held and the backline, following some enterprising play scored four tries. The hard work of Alexander Road's forwards did not go unrewarded and following a hard-won penalty, they scored a try from the resulting lineout maul.
Buoyed by their try the Alexander Road forwards took control of the second half and managed to penetrate Woodridge's flagging defences. This resulted in them adding a further twenty-six points to their tally. While this eclipsed the nineteen points scored by a combination of Woodridge’s forward and backline players, Woodridge College 1st XV managed to hold on to the lead winning a very entertaining game 45 points to 31 over Alexander Road High School’s 1st XV.
