SPECTATORS' code of conduct

At Woodridge College, we encourage all spectators to embrace the ethos of sport at our school. Although we expect students in sports teams to strive to win, we also recognise that matches develop individual skills and that participation should be an enjoyable experience for all. Sport is also about learning the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the value of participation. To this end, we would ask that all our spectators and supporters be mindful of the following:

• Respect the decision of the match official, even if it is incorrect.
• Condemn bad language, rude behaviour, and violence.
• Act as a positive role model to all young players.
• Be aware that the players are aware of verbal and emotional abuse and that it can, and often does, affect the standard of play.
• Accentuate the positive and do not point out the negatives or what a player or players have just done wrong - that is the coach's job.
• Acknowledge good performances by players from both teams, irrespective of which team you are supporting.
• Remember that it is a game and serves as a learning experience for the players, whether they win or lose.
• Learning to lose with dignity is an important aspect of the development of a positive attitude and of the will to win.
