Dear Families

I would like to begin this editorial by extending my warmest congratulations to Mr Reed on his appointment as Head of the Preparatory School, effective from January 2026. Having worked closely with him over the years and observed his development in a variety of roles within the Prep, I can say with confidence that he is both exceptionally well-qualified and ideally suited for this position. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the school will continue to thrive and reach even greater heights.

As part of our staff wellness programme this week, we have been exploring the importance of healthy sleep habits—how they impact on our wellbeing, focus, and resilience. In reflecting on this, I was struck by how closely these same ideas apply to our pupils. Sleep plays an essential role in the healthy development of children, and I felt it timely to share some thoughts with you on this topic—both as a reminder and as encouragement for us all to consider how we support our children’s rest and recovery each day. Each day at school, we have the pleasure of watching our pupils engage with learning, make discoveries, solve problems, and take on a wide range of activities. It is a full day in every sense of the word, and by the time they head home, most children will have been on the go, both mentally and physically, for many hours. This level of activity is wonderful for their development, but it also means that quality sleep at night is absolutely vital.
