Woodridge College cricket teams participated in the Makhanda Festival from 11-14 January 2023. The first game was a T20 against a strong Graeme side. Woodridge won the toss and elected to bat first, making 114 runs, with Joshua Botha scoring 48 runs.
Woodridge came in to bowl and Graeme were 5 wickets down on the last ball of the game, making 114 runs on the 3rd ball of the last over. The game came down to the last ball with Graeme securing the win with a 4. Well done to Waydon Bopp for taking 2 wickets for 10 runs in 3 overs.
In a declaration match, Woodridge came up against Cambridge. We won the toss and elected to bat, making 275 runs in 44 overs. Top peformers were Waydon Bopp with 38 runs, Jaydin Damons with 68 runs and Randy Syce with 57 runs not out. Woodridge declared with 6 wickets down and 275 runs. With some on-point bowling, we bowled Cambridge out for 92 runs. Randy Syce took 5 wickets in 5 overs for 24 runs, leading Woodridge to a convincing win with 183 runs.
The next match was another declaration match against Hudson. We won the toss and elected to bat, making 285 runs in 64 overs. Randy Syce scored 57, Joshua Botha 44 not out and Jaydin Damons scored a massive 100 runs. Woodridge declared on 285 runs. Hudson were bowled out for 107 runs. Ethan Moothoo took 2 wickets for 12 runs in 9 overs and Bukho Pantsi took 3 wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs. Woodridge won by 178 runs.
The final match for Woodridge was played against Dale in a 50 over format. Woodridge won the toss and elected to bowl. We bowled Dale out for 153 runs in 43 overs. In an impressive performance, Joshua Botha took 2 wickets for 22 runs in 5 overs, Bukho Pantsi took 2 wickets for 21 runs in 7 overs and Waydon Bopp took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs. When it was our turn to bat, we made their score in 35 overs, with 3 wickets down. Luke Taylor scored 24 runs, Ethan Moothoo 46 runs and James Beckley 55 runs not out. Woodridge won by 7 wickets.
The festival was a successful one for Woodridge College and it was a great start to the season for the 1st Team.
