Mission Statement

To give every pupil the opportunity to be exposed to music in its broadest possible sense. To enable pupils to develop their musical potential to the best of their ability.

Individual Instrumental Tuition

Tuition in the following Instruments is offered:

  • Piano
  • Voice
  • Flute
  • Violin
  • Saxophone
  • Clarinet
  • Guitar
  • Bass guitar
  • Drum Kit
  • Electronic keyboard
  • Recorder
  • Orchestral percussion

Examinations

External Evaluation:

Students are encouraged to enter external examinations through Trinity Guildhall, and Trinity Rockschool.

School Evaluation:

Two formal examinations and reports per year. These exams include:

  • Technical work (Exercises and Scales)
  • Pieces
  • Aural Tests
  • Sight Reading
  • Musical Knowledge

Theory

Music theory is either taught by the music teacher during practical lessons or, as pupils advance, they are taught in theory classes.

Arts and Culture Classes

All pupils participate in a number of cultural activities in arts and culture lessons during the academic day. These lessons cover the following disciplines:

  • Music
  • Speech and Drama
  • Art
  • Dance

Performances

Our department encourages every music student to perform on a regular basis. Students are encouraged to participate in Eisteddfods and Music Festivals. Regular concerts are organised at Woodridge to afford the students the opportunity to perform and every music student is expected to perform at least once a term.

Studio Concerts

Studio Concerts are held periodically as performance opportunities for all musicians.

Costs

All individual tuition is charged for. The fees for 2011 are R3 850 per instrument per pupil. Some group participation is free of charge and a minimal fee is charged for Marimba Band.
